Happy Monday (and new month!). Hard to believe that it’s July already.
What was Independence Day like by you? Here in Hart County, Georgia, Fourth of July festivities were cancelled for the first time ever. With no town-sanctioned events happening, many residents held their own private parties with friends and family. There were fireworks being shot off from farms and private residences, as well as some private businesses, all throughout northern Georgia and eastern South Carolina. During the day, you could find many of the residents swimming, drinking, and congregating at Lake Hartwell.
But even with these celebrations, the restrictions due to COVID-19 were still felt. Long-time residents told me it was so different from years past, emphasizing that Saturday was “not a true Southern Fourth of July.”
However you spent the weekend, I hope you had a safe (and wonderful) time. I’m looking forward to a new month and all the opportunities it’ll bring.
But for today, a roundup of some interesting stories from around the internet. Let’s take a coffee break together.
