Saturday morning, about 375 people gathered in Anderson, South Carolina to show their support for law enforcement officers in the area and across the country. This car parade, which had a route through downtown Anderson on the cloudy fall morning, included a rally with speeches from the police chief, state senators, and Senator Lindsey Graham.
“We’re not saying that law enforcement doesn’t make mistakes. Doctors also make mistakes, but no one says ‘Get rid of doctors.’ Everybody makes mistakes. Getting rid of law enforcement is nonsensical,” State Senator Richard Cash said. “We’re here because we appreciate the difficulty of what they do… We appreciate that they’re willing to do it. They don’t have to do it.”
Saturday’s event raised more than $5,000 in donations for law enforcement in Anderson County. One organizer grinned, saying it was more well attended than an August event in Greenville — and they are looking forward to additional events planned for neighboring counties in October.
[Editors Note]: It is here that I want to remind you of the premise of this project — we are more alike than different and most people are good. As with all of my coverage in the past year, I hope it helps you gain a more full picture of the many pieces in the American puzzle.
