Wednesday, January 20th brought both a new president and a call for unity in Washington DC and around the United States.

The day itself was sunny and quiet. A brisk wind blew throughout the city streets, which were mostly empty of civilians from either side of the aisle due to heightened security and numerous violent threats by far-right extremist groups. On the other hand, military and law enforcement personnel were present in large numbers at security checkpoints and intersections throughout two designated zones downtown, lining both soft and hard perimeters.

That morning, people who voted for President Biden gathered at Black Lives Matter plaza across from the White House to show their support and celebrate his Inauguration day. President Biden’s oath of office and following speech were played on a loudspeaker to resounding cheers and applause.

Following the Inauguration ceremony, supporters continued to come to Black Lives Matter plaza and the intersections nearby to celebrate the administration.
